Adaptive Reuse of Historic Monuments & Structures

© JTK Consult

Our involvement with preservation of historical buildings as part of the adaptive reuse of structures, via condition surveys and in-depth materials intervention, have been key to the successful completion of several jobs in this specialised area. This includes A' Famosa and St. Paul's Church in Malacca, the former Bukit Bintang Girls School, the Taiping Museum in Perak, Parliament House in Singapore and and the award winning Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur.

The overall scope of work includes:

  • Full photographic documentation of buildings and structures
  • Comprehensive condition surveys leading to structural appraisal
  • Assessing the pattern and significance of settlement and defects and setting up monitoring programmes where needed
  • Extraction of Samples and designing of a specialised testing programme
  • Suggesting compatible materials for reinstatement and designing the remedial intervention
  • Recommending appropriate design options for adaptive reuse as part of a conservation strategy
