Ir Dr Kribanandan GN

A civil engineer by training, Dr Kriban has 25 years experience in the construction and maintenance management industry and has worked in the United Kingdom, Middle East, Hong Kong, Singapore and Southern Africa on major projects and in well-established consultancy practices.

After graduating as a civil & structural engineer from the University of Wales (UK), he went on to complete a PhD. in Concrete Durability in Aberdeen University (Scotland) in a Shell sponsored project to develop concrete for offshore applications. He joined Taywood Engineering Ltd. in London becoming involved in several projects related to the investigation of new and defective structures, providing material durability assessment, litigation support and the development of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. He was also involved in several R & D initiatives at the forefront of concrete technology.

He then spent three years in southern Africa working as a consultant to the Botswana Technology Centre where he focused on harnessing of alternative and appropriate technologies for design and construction including considerations in rain water harvesting, Ferrocement technology, Earth Construction, and Passive solar design in projects ranging from housing, office buildings to product development for construction.

Upon his return to Kuala Lumpur in 1993, he became Director of Taywood Engineering, being responsible for the setting up and developing of Taylor Woodrow's unique Design and Technology consultancy in Malaysia. He also managed the Taywood Singapore office.

He was spearheading the development of Taylor Woodrow's unique facilities management business in Malaysia and Singapore prior to a management buyout in 2001 which led to the setting up of JTK Consult Sdn Bhd., a locally based Design and Technology Consultancy where he is currently the Managing Director.

His relevant technical expertise and multi-disciplinary management skills have been developed on mega - projects including the Petronas Twin Towers, the Telekom Tower, STAR Light Rail Transit, The Storm Water and Road Tunnel (SMART) Project; St Joseph's Institution, Parliament House and Suntec City in Singapore; the New Doha International Airport in Qatar; and the Sitra Bridge and Fontana Towers in Bahrain.

Dr. Kriban is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) UK and a member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM). He represents Malaysia in the ISO Committee on Design Life of Buildings and is currently chair of the local committee on Design life spearheading the implementation of this new standard. He was the founding president of the American Concrete Institute KL Chapter and a member of committee de Beton (CIB) a world wide organization promoting concrete technology. He has published over 40 papers and is the author of over 250 Technical Reports.
