All Saint’s Church, Kuala Lumpur

JTK Consult (JTK) was engaged by MMCEG-GAMUDA Sdn Bhd (MMCEG) to provide supervision consultancy for the remedial works for the All Saints Church at Jalan Cheras, Wilayah Persekutuan.

Further to the detailed assessment and inspection of the above structure, it was noted that structural cracks had developed on the walls and extended to the beams, columns and slabs exhibiting signs of differential settlements and distortion. This was caused by the tunneling works associated with the SMART project.

A monitoring regime including crack, tilt, ground settlement monitoring etc, was set up to monitor the movement of the structure. Arising from this the overall structural design remedial options were developed for discussion with the client.

The recommended approach to remedial works was successfully implemented to the required quality and the structure was reinstated to its original design intent. The following special considerations were taken on board:

  • The durability of external concrete elements exposed to wet dry environments.
  • The maintenance of the roof structure and drainage to prevent water ingress into the internal structural elements.

The repair works were completed under the full supervision of JTK.
