Sungai Nipah Bridge, Penang

A dilapidation survey was undertaken prior to the widening of the Sungai Nipah bridge as part of the Penang Second Bridge development project.

The survey was to record the present condition of the bridge prior to bridge upgrading works.

Cracks found at the parapet walls were non-structural and could be remediated as it was to be retained as a part of the future bridge structure.

Based on concerns expressed over the construction joint at the abutment, it was advised to undertake a full survey to safeguard long term durability concerns and develop remedial interventions for the bridge upgrading works.
