KTMB Double Track Project, Malaysia

The new 329 km long electrified double track infrastructure and systems was planned, designed and constructed by MMC Gamuda JV (MGJV) and was built over the period 2008 to 2014.

It was part of MGJV’s contract to have a proper operation and maintenance programme prepared and handed over to the operator, KTMB. JTK Consult was appointed as a consultant to prepare the technical maintenance manuals for the civil and structural elements for all the assets and facilities.

The new assets and facilities included the land viaducts, marine viaducts, Prai Swing Bridge, tunnels, all other civil works and earth retaining structures, stations, depots, staff quarters and sewage treatment plants.

JTK produced 8 no maintenance manuals for each type of facility and this included inspection procedures identification of the key intervention needs, procedures for escalation to special inspection and reporting.

A series of training programmes to the MGJV and KTMB staff were organised to ensure the manuals were understood. The basic investigation knowledge and tools required for effective on-going maintenance was provided as part of the training delivery.
