The JTK consultancy support for The STAR Light Railway Transit in Kuala Lumpur, now called the Ampang Line, involved identifying and setting up the Maintenance Management requirements at the start of the LRT operations. This included undertaking base line surveys of all the Viaducts, Piers, Stations and Associated structures and developing procedures and requirements for maintenance intervention.
The survey was conducted using a systematic approach via standard forms set up to be inputted directly into a database. The database included several levels of classification, detailed photos and descriptions of identified problems. The need for special Inspections were highlighted and a detailed survey undertaken in problem areas to identify the causes of the problem and requirements for remedial action. The system was set up to form the basis in which future inspections will be undertaken as part of the overall maintenance provision. JTK was involved not only in setting up the procedures but also helped train key railway staff to form the internal maintenance team for the client.
