JTK Consult (JTK) was engaged by B Braun Medical Industries (BMI) to undertake an assessment of the concrete in-situ strength at Building B8 under construction at Bayan Lepas Penang.
The building is primarily an RC structure including shearwalls, RC beams, cantilever beams and a conventional slab system and was built during the period July 2013 to July 2014.
Over 100 core samples were extracted from the slab, beam and corewalls for a comprehensive review of the concrete strength throughout the building. The JTK review found that the in-situ concrete strength was in compliance to the BS 6089: 2010 code requirements.
There was an issue of cold joints on beam RB7 and this was examined by taking cores and remedial intervention by way of structural epoxy injection was proposed.
