The CIMB Menara SBB in Bukit Damansara is used as an office and data centre. The building was built in 1996 consisting of 7 office levels and 4 basement car park levels.
The building was modified to convert level 4 into a data centre and several areas were strengthened using carbon fibre strips by others to cater for the load increase.
A full survey of basement was also undertaken. Several issues were noted such as water ingress, settlement observed between beam and walls, exposed reinforcements and cracking of structural elements.
JTK Consult (JTK) undertook the structural condition audit to determine the extent of the defects. It was verified that several defects were of a structural nature and required further monitoring and assessment. The structural elements at the basement were affected by concrete carbonation and corrosion was a problem due to the water ingress and humid environment. The columns and beams that are severely affected by corrosion were identified for further investigation and remedial interventions.
